HLATIKHULU - Mystery surrounds the death of a couple that was found hanging inside their house at Esibhoteleni on Friday afternoon.

The deceased Mlun- gisi Mbingo’s (24) younger brother Ntokozo (23) made the discovery at around 1pm.

Mlungisi was hanging alongside his girlfriend, Sebe Sithole of Mangwaneni in Hlatikhulu.

Ntokozo said the bodies were facing opposite directions and there were traces of blood around his brother’s neck.

He said his brother was half naked while his girlfriend was fully-clothed.

Ntokozo said upon making the discovery, he went to the Hlatikhulu Police Station to report the matter.

He said they did not want to jump to conclusions as a family over the circumstances surrounding the couple’s death.

Narrating how he came to discover his brother and his girlfriend dead, Ntokozo said he had just returned from work at CYP Chinese Paper in Hlatikhulu earlier that morning.

"I suspected something was amiss as he did not come to check on me.

"After waking up at around 1pm, I decided to go to his house to see if he was okay. I knocked on the door and repeatedly shouted his name, but there was no response.

"I then peeped through the window, but I could not see anything.

"I then removed one of the windows and to my shock I saw my brother’s body and that of his girlfriend hanging from the rafters.

"I called my younger sister Phakamile and we went to report the matter to the police," said Ntokozo.

Phakamile alleged that Mlungisi and Sithole had fought the previous night, Ntokozo said.

Their mother, Thembisile Sibandze (48) was emotional during the interview as she described her first-born son as someone who was down to earth and respectful.

"We are appealing for financial assistance for the funeral costs and anyone willing can contact me at 7689 4511," Sibandze said.

Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Wendy Hleta, confirmed the incident and said investigations were still ongoing.
