I'm too busy to take leave - PM

MATSAPHA – Prime Minister Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini has said his workload is so much that he cannot afford to go on leave.

He said only Sibaya, where PMs are appointed and removed, could give him rest. Our sister newspaper the Times Sunday carried a story that the PM was paid double his monthly salary because he had not taken leave since Finance Circular No 1 was effected in 2010.

Upon his return from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia where he represented His Majesty King Mswati III at the African Union Summit, the PM was asked to shed light on his failure to go on leave.

"It is difficult to go on leave, especially when one takes into consideration the challenges faced by the country. Taking leave would mean that the PM has to go home and relax leisurely, forgetting about the country’s problems.

"Besides, it is unheard of that a PM could take a leave and go home. I will only get rest at the cattle byre," he said.

When asked how he was coping with the workload given his age which had passed the normal retirement age, the PM said there is no retirement age for politicians.

"I have never heard of a retirement age for politicians," he said.

We understand fully that the PM has no tie to take leave..it happens..how come as a civil servant I am not paid for my excess leave days? Natsi it happens that we are short staffed and can not take leave but government does not buy the day from..this is just greed by the PM and his cabinet..crafting policies to suit him..if he was really worried that Swaziland had no money he would have stopped this..nakitsi its in the law that we should be compensated for inflation on an annual basis but he stopped that..why cant he stop his many allowances that really hurt the budget and depletes our reserves further..ichamukaphi nje lemali yekutsenga ema leave days?
