Injured drink-driving suspect locked up
MANZINI - An injured drink-driving suspect was remanded back into custody and not admitted to bail after he pleaded not guilty to parking his vehicle in the middle of the road.
Bongani Hadzebe (31) of Logoba appeared before Magistrate Sebenzile Ndlela-Kunene yesterday charged with two offences.
He was alleged to have abandoned a Toyota Hino truck on a public road at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital after being involved in an accident.
Hadzebe, who had a bandaged head, told the court that he had gone for treatment at the hospital when he was arrested for allegedly parking the truck on the road.
He denied that he had abandoned the truck on the road.
Before he could move an application for bail, he was told to make way for the next suspect.
Hadzebe told the court that he would lose his job if he was kept in custody but he was told he would have to come back for trial today.
He was, therefore, remanded back into custody.
After the court session, he tried reasoning with the Public Prosecutor, Fakazi Mngomezulu and Clerk of Court, Nokuthula Thomo, who however, told him they could not assist him as the magistrate had finished her roll for the day.
Hadzebe was arrested near the RFM hospital yesterday for allegedly driving while he was under the influence of alcohol and also abandoning the vehicle on the road.
