MBABANE – The Law Society of Swaziland has received a better response from its members after the name and shame tactic for if members who had not paid up.

The Law Society has issued an updated list indicating that about 50 lawyers had paid subscriptions and the Fidelity Fund, that stand at E3 000 and E600 respectively.

The Fidelity Fund, the Society said, was for lawyers who were in practice and had trust accounts for their clients’ moneys. It said it acted as insurance for instances where one was found to have misappropriated those funds.

The Law Society Treasurer Mbuso Simelane urged members who still had not approached the office, to do so.

The Law Society had warned the public against paying lawyers whose names did not appear in the list.

It said in terms of the law, all admitted attorneys were supposed to be up to date with subscriptions and the Fidelity Fund.

The Fidelity Fund does not apply to lawyers employed by government and those employed by private companies.
