We were duped into attending people's parly'
MANZINI – Some of those who attended the ‘people’s parliament’ convened by the Coalition of Concerned Civic Organisations (SCCCO) have alleged that they were taken for a ride.
They said those who invited them to the meeting did not specify that the agenda was politically motivated. They have since distanced themselves from the resolutions taken during the meeting which was attended by over 3 000 people.
Among many resolutions, the people’s parliament resolved to do away with the current Tinkhundla system of governance and embrace multiparty democracy.
One of those who attended said he was Chairman of an HIV/AIDS Support Group under the Motshane Inkhundla.
"I was just told to bring together members of the support group who would be ferried by bus to Manzini for a workshop on income generating projects," the chairman said. At least 10 members of the support group made it to the Bosco Skills Centre for the workshop.
