14-year-old steals baby
MBABANE – A 14 year-old girl of Mfabantfu is alleged to have abducted a four-month-old baby to impress her boyfriend.
Months earlier, she had allegedly told her boyfriend that she was pregnant.
The teenager, who is yet to appear before court is alleged to have stolen the baby on Friday afternoon while at Lobamba.
She is alleged to have taken the baby and gone to Lukhula a place situated about 10 kilometres from Siteki where her boyfriend was claiming the baby belonged to her.
Soon after the baby’s disappearance, the family reported the matter to the Lobamba police who began investigations.
As the investigation continued, it transpired that the baby had been kidnapped by the girl.
The police traced her whereabouts and it was discovered that she was at Lukhula.
The police went to the area where they are alleged to have found the girl with the baby. The infant was later handed over to its real parents.
Superintendent Wendy Hleta confirmed the matter, saying the girl was yet to appear before court.
She warned parents to look after their children as there were people who were always waiting to take chances and abduct them.
"Parents should always know where their children are in order to avoid a situation whereby a child is taken by unknown people," she said.
