MBABANE - Thobile Mndzebele, the then 15 year-old teenager who was traditionally wedded by Private Investigator (PI) Hunter Shongwe says she has moved on.

In a telephone interview with this publication yesterday, Mndzebele said she did not want to hear anything about Shongwe. She said she had moved on with life and her relationship with Shongwe was a thing of the past.

Mndzebele said she did not care about the ruling of the Swazi National Court of Appeal which ruled in Shongwe’s favour.

"In fact you are annoying me when you ask me about Hunter. Go to him and ask him about everything, she said before hanging up the phone.

We’ve been on it since 1999

MBABANE - This newspaper has followed the matter since it started in 1999.

A number of stories have been written by this publication about it.

In her answering affidavit in 1999, Thobile Mndzebele, denied that she was traditionally married to Shongwe. She said it was not true that she was smeared with red ochre by Joana Shabalala.

Mndzebele even denied that she ever set foot at Dwalile where Shongwe alleged he traditionally married her. However, Shabalala filed evidence in an affidavit that she participated in the traditional process of wedding Mndzebele. Shongwe also argued that he did marry Mndzebele. Speaking to this publication yesterday, Shongwe said Mndzebele was still his wife.

I met her through a vision - PI

EZULWINI - Private Investigator (PI) Hunter Shongwe alleges he met his then young wife through a vision.

"I didnt know her. But I kept dreaming about her every day," he narrated.

The PI said one day he just felt like travelling towards Phonjwane.

He said he met his brother Walter whom he had last seen about 10 years ago at that time.

Shongwe said he related his story of the visions about the girl he constantly dreamt of.

Coincidentally, his brother had had the same visions about the girl, Thobile Mndzebele, who was a resident of Phonjwane. On that day, Shongwe met with Mndzebele and immediately proposed to her.

"We started the love affair at first sight. I approached her family that day where I met her grandfather who is the former MP Luke Makolo Hlatjwako," he said.

Shongwe alleged that Hlatjwako told him to pay cows for asking to marry her (tinkhomo tekumucela) as per the Swazi custom.

"I duly paid the cattle, but Hlatjwako asked that I take Thobile to school since she had dropped out of school," he alleged.

He said he reluctantly agreed but then troubles started when schools closed.

The PI alleges Hlatjwako refused to allow Thobile to visit him yet he had paid the three cows.

"Therefore, when Thobile visited me I wedded her traditionally on June 13, 1999," he said.

He said he was shocked when Hlatjwako sought the court’s intervention to have Thobile return home alleging she was underage. Shongwe disputed that Thobile was 15 when they met. He alleged that Thobile was 19 years old.

: Do you think Minister Hlobisile Ndlovu is guilty of premature campaigning for giving money to people on the street after they said they’d vote for her?
