What's happening with elderly grants paid through bank?
MBABANE – There is suspicion that the payment of elderly grants through the banks is being sabo-taged by some officers.
This has led to an investigation that was launched by the office of the Deputy Prime Minister, where findings indicated that the office had been having a hand in the misdirection of some of the grant assistance.
Elderly people receiving grants through the bank have still not received their money for the month of April.
The money was due to them around the third week of the month.
"The office has taken the matter up with the relevant offices and has instituted the necessary dis-ciplinary measures," read a statement written by Prin-cipal Secretary in the DPM’s office Khangeziwe Mabuza.
Mabuza said her office is also making all possible efforts to assist the situation and have the elderly paid within the next two weeks.
"We request that the beneficiaries get in touch with our office after this period to verify progress on the matter prior to committing on travelling costs to the banks," she said.
She conveyed apologies to the public, "Particularly the elderly who receive their monthly grants through the banking institutions.
Payments for the month of April 2012 have still not been effected."
Mabuza assured the nation that the electronic payment system is the best payment mode which needs to be intensified, "As we can trace losses of cash and identify culprits than continuing with the manual payment system."
