MBABANE – Members of the public at the Pigg’s Peak Club watched in disbelief as two council-lor’s fought in full view of the public.

The councillors are Reggie Lukhele, a former Chairman of the Town Board, and Makhosini Coaster Ginindza, one of the longest-serving councillors in the small town.

Councillor Lukhele is also a member of the Pigg’s Peak Club Board of Directors. The fight occurred on Saturday night and members of the public are said to have had a tough time trying to separate the two.

Councillor Ginindza has since opened a case at the Pigg’s Peak Police Station against Councillor Lukhele, after sustaining injuries to his neck. The confrontation is said to have started after Lukhele had ordered that Ginindza be taken out of the club because he was banned by the Board from setting foot there.

Ginindza is said to have not taken kindly to this and is alleged to have then attacked Lukhele. In an interview, Lukhele said the reasons he wanted to take his colleague out of the club was because he was banned from setting foot there.

He said he manhandled him after Ginindza began saying unpalatable words to him in full view of members of the public and patrons.

Lukhele claimed his colleague was banned from the club because he used to come with his own alcoholic beverages and make noise within the premises. Ginindza claimed he never fought with Councillor Lukhele, but was attacked by him.

He also denied allegations that he was banned from the club because there was no document to that effect given to him. "He is the one who attacked me and I have witnesses to prove that. He strangled me in full view of other members of the public, but I did not retaliate," he said.

Councillor Ginindza said he reported the matter to the police because Lukhele strangled him and he sustained injuries.

Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Wendy Hleta, confirmed the matter. She said police are currently investigating, but no one has been arrested yet.

Pigg’s Peak Town Board Chairman Shaka Thwala also confirmed that the matter was reported to him and said they would be undertaking their own investigations to ascertain what really transpired.

He said councillors are expected to be exemplary as they represent the people. Thwala said they would leave no stone unturned in this matter because there were rules stating how councillors should handle themselves in public.

Chairman of the Pigg’s Peak Club Mathokoza Manana declined to comment when called yesterday.

Reggy wants to rule Pigg's Peak, I think this is beyond the Club banning, Costa has reavealed his intentions to become the Piggs Peak MP, but since Reggy fears Costa because in the Town Council elections Reggy was defeated by Costers team then Reggy is trying to do all he can to get rid of Coster. If I recall very well Reggy immigrated to Piggs Peak looking for a job and Piggs Peak has done a lot for him but now he wants to dictate our town. Reggy if you are tired of Piggs Peak. The Swazi government has rehabilitated the road to Nhlangano... leave us with peace please.

I wonder why Reggie doesn't accept defeat, he was defeated in the Council's chairman elections, he is still bitter of it up to now. Why didn't he call security to get rid of Coster if he was wrong? Or else call the Police? Reggie we know your previous job and probably that's the only qualification you have, but Sir. you must now act like a proffessional and be exemplary to the youth.

This is a disgrace... here are we going to a club to enjoy ourselves & get to witness such an absurd sight from 2 men who are supposed to be somewhat role models for the youth. This is just a disgrace, I wouldn't care less who started it but true leaders should never conduct themselves like this:- especially in public. I say we need a public apology from both of them
