MANZINI - The 35 year old woman who was allegedly shot by her husband at Makholweni in Fairview on Saturday night was killed after an argument over the lights being switched off during the night.

According to reliable sources, Romeo Sipho Shongwe (42) of Makholweni arrived at his house on Saturday night at about 7pm and found the lights switched off.

He allegedly argued with his wife, Lindelwa Ginindza, over why the lights were switched off at that time of the night as that would attract snakes to his home.

"They argued and he ordered his wife to prepare supper.

"When she told him that the food was ready, he ordered her to wait as he was still drinking his beer," the source alleged.

The argument is said to have occurred in front of the couple’s two children, who allegedly went into their bedrooms after it started getting heated.

"The children saw their mother running through the passage and going outside. They heard their father telling her that he was going to get his gun. After a few minutes they heard a gunshot and the youngest, a girl, rushed outside and found her mother lying in a pool of blood while her father was crying hysterically, shouting and begging his wife not to die and leave him with the children," the source alleged.

Shongwe is said to have asked their son, aged 12, to call the police and an ambulance. After realising they were taking too long, he allegedly rushed his wife to hospital, where she was certified dead upon arrival.

When he made his first appearance in court yesterday before Magistrate Lucky Groening, who asked if he would seek the services of an attorney, Shongwe, who was arrested and charged with murder, said he would seek legal representation.

Shongwe is accused of intentionally killing Ginindza by shooting her in the back.

He is expected back in court on March 26, 2012, pending a committal to the High Court.

Clearly this man wan not drunk unless we are not reading right; the man came home to find lights off and he argued that if the lights are off at that time it will attract snakes into the home, he could remember where the gun was, could aim at a moving target and get a hit, could realize what he did could cause the wife to die and leave him with the kids, ask the kid to call police, rush the victim to hospital safely; THESE ARE NOT ACTIONS OF A DRUNK PERSON but those of a stupid one, the kind of fool who is lazy to reason from cause to effect while he clearly understands the consequences of his action. He MUST BE HUNG IN FULL PUBLIC VIEW to send a stern WARNING to all would be fools.
