HLUTSE – The Inner Council of Hlutse Royal Kraal, near Phonjwane brought together two families in a three-hour long meeting where the agenda was a stolen underwear.

The underwear belonging to Mbongiseni Gwebu (32) is still missing, as he insists that it was part of three pieces of underwear that were taken by his estranged wife, whose name may not be published for now.

The missing underwear has been a subject of discussion in three police stations where efforts were made to resolve the matter.

The two families – Gwebu and Mkhabela – deliberated at length the factors around the theft of the underwear and the possibility of its return to its rightful owner.

Both Gwebu and his estranged wife whom he married by Swazi Law and Custom were in attendance.

Their marriage ended after a history of bedroom wars in 2009, having lived together since 2007.

The latest meeting at the royal kraal was chaired by the Headman Jabulani Dlamini.

The wife’s father, Mahlola Mkhabela, was first to relate his side of the story as he said his son-in-law had openly told him that he wanted to terminate the union with his daughter.

"He told me that if I did not fetch my daughter, something terrible was going to happen as he could not stand being around her for another night," Mkhabela said.

He said it was this statement that caused his family to go and fetch his daughter from her marital home that same day.

As the Mkhabela family was collecting their daughter’s belongings, Gwebu’s underwear was also taken along.

Gwebu told the meeting that he discovered after the departure of his in-laws that his underwear was missing.

He said he has gone through a lot trying to recover it.

Gwebu’s wife, *Thulile, explained to the meeting that she had taken the underwear on purpose because she had bought them in happier times.

"As I was asked to take everything that was mine; this, therefore, included the underwear," she said as the meeting hushed in awe.

She said Gwebu was abusive and had threatened to kill her.

"I went to work in Mbabane and he followed me and caused chaos there. I reported the issue to the police who called him to order. When he beat me at Ndzevane I went to report the issue at the Matsapha Police Station where they called him to order.

"I then went to work in Sithobela where he also followed me, still nagging about the underwear.

"I also reported the issue to the Sithobela police where I said I was not running away with the underwear. I produced them and an officer said he would take a police van and take the underwear to Gwebu’s home just so that this would all come to an end," she said.

However, Gwebu said three of his underwear had gone missing, while his estranged wife only brought back two.

However, his wife insisted she had only taken two underwears.

The meeting resolved that Gwebu should desist from threatening her again and that she must bring back the underwear that is still mis- sing.
