MBABANE – Ajax Cape Town have ‘hijacked’ Mbabane Swallows flying winger Darren Christie’s move to Free State Stars.

The Absa Premiership runners-up have invited the player who was on trials at Free State Stars for assessment tomorrow in Johannesburg where they have set up camp during the AFCON 2012 forced break.

The player has already returned from Bethlehem to join forces with the Urban Warriors who would play Moroka Swallows this afternoon at Dobsonville as part of their preparation. However, ‘Dazza’ is expected to undergo a medical with the team where his level of fitness will also be assessed before talks over a contract could commence.

His South African based Manager Ernest Fakude said they received the invitation on Tuesday and that the player left Free State yesterday for Johannesburg.

"He had to choose between going for trials and being assessed by a team that already knows him. He made the choice and will be at Ajax tomorrow (today) and depending on the outcome of the medical," he said. Mbabane Swallows acting CEO Sibusiso Manana said they were not aware of the latest development on the player. "We only released him to Free State Stars and maybe they are still going to inform us on the changes," he said. He also said Moroka Swallows had also shown interest in the player, for trials. Meanwhile, Fakude said he had decided to defer Banele Pupu Sikhondze’s trials with Chippa United to June to allow the player enough time to regain his fitness. "He owes Swallows a lot after being on the sidelines for half the season. He has to win at least a trophy with the club, hence we have rescheduled his trials to June," he said.
