We will rock SD - Big Nuz's Mampintja
Real Entertainment will host the first ever hip hop festival in the country next week Saturday at House on Fire in Malkerns.
Themed ‘Hipnotik Festival’, the event, which is likely to attract mostly the younger generation has a beautiful line-up fit for a festival.
One of the groups that will definitely rock the stage is South African kwaito giants Big Nuz. They need no introduction as they have performed many times in the country and have a huge following.
GCWALA had a chat with the group’s most popular member Mampintja and the first thing he said is that they just can’t wait for the event.
"We now feel like we are at home every time we come to Swaziland. We always make sure that we give it our best in as far as our performance is concerned. Right now we have new stuff that will definitely be loved by our Swazi fans," said Mampintja.
Adding he highlighted that all the members of the group are from ‘ekasi’ which is why they are never dressed in fancy clothes for their performances. This, he said means that everyone is welcome to their shows.
"In all our gigs, we always look simple and this is good because it accommodates everyone. We want everyone to be free just like us. We are not celebrities. All we are doing is pushing because life is all about that".
Mampintja further stated that they would never miss a shows in the country.
He said even if they were to get five invites but once they see one from Swaziland, they put the rest aside.
"We love the Swazi King because we know he loves the people. We love the peace because it makes us free. It’s very nice to have fun in a place where there’s no noise.
"In Swaziland we are treated with so much love and make so many friends. Who knows we might get wives there," he says jokingly.
Towards the end of the interview, the talented dancer hints that they not only have many surprises for their fans but will also use the festival to see some local talent that they can assist.
"We know that Swaziland has so much talent and it’s embarrassing that there is not even one artist that we have worked with.
"So we are hoping to pick just one deejay or any upcoming musician who has written songs so that we can work with him."
Big Nuz have been one of the busiest kwaito groups in the South Africa doing shows from Cape Town to Manchester (London).
The group has done theme songs for KZN Department of Transport, Nedbank Cup and performed in the 2009 ANC campaigns and President Jacob Zuma inauguration.
They have worked with their number one producer Fisherman and their mentor DJ Tira.
